Colton Arkhangel began his nursing career in 2011, where he developed a passion for addiction & mental health nursing. Over the years he has worked as a Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager, and Nurse Clinician in Provincial, Territorial and Federal Correctional facilities, substance use detoxification & treatment centers, pediatric emergency mental health, community harm reduction & housing first programs, rural/arctic outpost healthcare settings. He has also taught nursing at the University of Calgary and Red Deer Polytechnic. Colton advanced his Nursing Education by achieving a Master of Nursing from the University of Calgary in 2017, specializing in Nursing Education and publishing a guide for enhancing discussion-based learning in the post-secondary environment. Colton has volunteered internationally promoting mental health, immunization, sports, and human rights in Africa, Central Asia, and South America. He is an avid hockey player, dog owner, traveler, and floral designer. Colton is the proud parent of a Mental Health Service Dog named “Charlotte”, and is passionate about role of animals in mental health and addiction recovery. Colton has a specific interest in further studying and enhancing mental health & wellness within the trades, remote work camps, and aviation industries.
Colton founded Arkhangel Addiction & Mental Health Services to provide a high quality alternative mental health nursing service for individuals & families wishing to access services not available through the public mental health system. And for those who are seeking assistance in navigating and accessing privately funded mental health & addiction services. The current level of pressure on the public mental health system has resulted in long waitlists and reduced quantity and quality of services. Arkhangel Addiction & Mental Health Services strives to provide individuals and families with solutions to fill service gaps and succeed in their recovery and live to their full potential.
